Kick The Tyres pre-purchase vehicle inspectors use a range of specialised diagnostic and testing equipment in all our inspections, depending on the type of vehicle we are inspecting.
Is The Vehicle Put On A Hoist?
Yes, all Kick The Tyres workshops use hoists to complete pre purchase vehicle inspections so we can thoroughly examine underneath the vehicle.
Can I Speak To The Person Who Inspects My Vehicle?
Absolutely! On completion, the Kick The Tyres pre-purchase inspector who completed your inspection will discuss the report in detail with you and provide you with a printed copy to take away.
How Long Will The Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Take?
Most pre-purchase vehicle inspections are completed within two hours. Bookings are often available same day by calling us on 0800 400 040, or next day onwards through our online booking system.
Is A Kick The Tyres Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection Guaranteed?
We strive to ensure our pre-purchase vehicle inspections are performed as accurately and as detailed as possible, using the equipment available to us at the time of inspection. The information we give you is our independent, professional opinion on the operation, performance and condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection. We have reached this opinion by using our own specialised diagnostic and testing equipment and processes.
Our inspections are based on the visual examination and diagnostic testing of components on and in the vehicle. We are not able to dismantle any components and we cannot see or reach all internal components of the vehicle. It is possible that impending failures are not evident at the time of the inspection. We will act with the utmost reasonable care and skill but we cannot be held responsible for any future defects or problems with the vehicle that cannot be identified at the time of inspection. In any event the remedy will be no greater than the purchase price of the inspection.
Our inspections do not replace a warrant or certificate of fitness. You are responsible for ensuring that a valid and current warrant or certificate of fitness is obtained before operating the vehicle under New Zealand law.
If you believe there are inaccuracies with the report, please contact the branch manager or contact our head office in Christchurch via info@kickthetyres.co.nz, within seven days.
Do You Check Ownership, Money Owing, or Verify Any Background On The Vehicle?
We do not complete any background checks on the vehicle. We strongly recommend you check current ownership and for any outstanding finance or securities held over the vehicle before you hand over your money. You can use CarJam or a PPSR check to do this.
Who gets to see the inspection report?
We will only supply and discuss the report with you, our customer, as the person who books and pays for the inspection. If you would like us to share the report with another person (e.g. the seller or the buyer) then we will be happy to do so, with your permission.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

When buying a used vehicle, one of the most important steps you can take is arranging a vehicle inspection before making your purchase. While a car might look perfect on the surface, hidden issues can lead to unexpected costs and safety concerns down the road. That’s why a pre-purchase vehicle inspection from Kick The Tyres is essential to ensure you’re making a smart investment.
What Is a Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection?
A pre-purchase vehicle inspection is a detailed check of a used car to assess its condition before you buy it. At Kick The Tyres, we perform comprehensive vehicle inspections that cover all major systems, including the engine, transmission, brakes, and electrics. For hybrid and electric vehicles, we offer specialised inspections, including battery health checks and diagnostics.
Why You Should Never Skip a Vehicle Inspection Before Buying
- Avoid Costly Surprises – A vehicle might look great on the outside, but hidden problems can result in expensive repairs later. A pre-purchase vehicle inspection helps uncover issues that aren’t immediately visible, saving you money in the long run.
- Ensure Safety – Your safety is the top priority. A professional vehicle inspection ensures that the car you’re considering is roadworthy. We identify safety risks like worn-out brakes or tyre issues so you can drive with confidence.
- Negotiate with Confidence – A thorough vehicle inspection report puts you in a strong position to negotiate the price. If issues are found, you can ask the seller to address them or adjust the price accordingly.
When Should You Get a Vehicle Inspection?
- Before You Buy Any Used Vehicle – A pre-purchase vehicle inspection is crucial whether you’re buying from a dealer or a private seller. At Kick The Tyres, our expert team conducts detailed vehicle inspections and provides you with a report that helps you make an informed decision.
- For Hybrid and Electric Vehicles – If you’re considering a hybrid or electric vehicle, specialised checks are necessary. Our team is equipped to handle vehicle inspections for hybrid and electric models, including battery health assessments and on-board diagnostics.
